The Long Term Substitute Chronicles: Today I did... →
specialbunny:
I love this lesson. I did it earlier in the year when we did 6+1 traits of writing, but now that we’re delving deeper into descriptive writing, I wanted to revisit it now that we’ve done some practice with verbs and adjectives.
It’s so simple, but the kids adore it!
Materials:

We've Got A Diem to Carpe: Survive Month 1 of... →
I would add a few to what I have learned in my first month:
exercise! you spend so much time sitting that you need to move
drink water, to compensate for all the coffee
I agree, teachers gossip, and talk crap about their students. Do not join in this. Not only does it bring you down and belittle the profession of helping these students, it could get you in trouble
sleep! it will help the...

Student no more!
Yesterday I received the call I have been waiting for all summer. I have been offered a position as a 7th grade humanities teacher! I am ecstatic. Honestly, I am shocked I got a teaching job with in my first year in the field. The down side: its only .4 FTE. I am definitely worried about finances and I am going to continue working at Tully’s Coffee to try to avoid massive debt. But, that...

Rule #1 of Teaching: Don't go in the teacher's...
adiemtocarpe:
All I hear is gossip. Never do I hear teachers mentioning all the great things their students have accomplished during the day, it’s always “ohmigod I can’t wait to get Sammy’s parents in for a parent teacher conference and tell them what a little [expletive] they’ve been in my class.” I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want what they are saying to influence my opinions of my kids.

'We pauperize education' →
adventuresinlearning:
“…The richest nation on Earth has never allocated enough resources to build sufficient schools, to compensate adequately its teachers, and to surround them with the prestige our work justifies. We squander funds on highways, on the frenetic pursuit of recreation, on the overabundance of overkill armament, but we pauperize education.” — From March 14, 1964 speech...

absolute rationale
never is a lie
always is a promise
forever is a long time
think before you let these words escape your mouth
power vacuum
Please tell me you still have my heart,
please tell me you haven’t lost it
i can feel the cavity in which it used to rest
now my other organs try to fill of up this vacant lot
my lung expand
kidneys shift
stomach wriggles up
but no matter what occupies the space where my heart once resided
the sense of a hole will remain.
please tell me you still have my heart,
please tell me you...
How long can hearts ache
how far can they overflow
before those hearts break?
