I would add a few to what I have learned in my first month:
- exercise! you spend so much time sitting that you need to move
- drink water, to compensate for all the coffee
- I agree, teachers gossip, and talk crap about their students. Do not join in this. Not only does it bring you down and belittle the profession of helping these students, it could get you in trouble
- sleep! it will help the aching muscles and you will feel better.
- occasionally provide the students with a work day or silent reading day. It gives you a chance to relax from performing constantly and catch up on grading.
